Insuring a Future: The Affordable Care Act and American Health Care Reform

Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum
Independence, MO

Thursday, February 1, 2018 - 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. CST

Harry S. Truman was the first president to publicly endorse a national health insurance program. His proposal was defeated in Congress, and years later Truman listed this defeat as the most troubling disappointment of his presidency.

In the decades since, health care has remained a constant conversation in our nation's politics, leading to today, where the Affordable Care Act has faced constant challenges that have left many Americans confused about their health care.

Please join us for this special program jointly presented with the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum and American Public Square, where we welcome a panel to discuss the future of the Affordable Care Act and American Health Care.

Brian Ellison, Host/Contributor for KCUR, will moderate a panel featuring Rachel Nuzum, M.P.H., Vice President for the Federal and State Health Policy initiative at the Commonwealth Fund; Julie Rovner, Robin Toner Distinguished Fellow and Chief Washington Correspondent at Kaiser Health News; David Slusky, PhD, Assistant Professor of Economics at University of Kansas; and Joseph Antos, Wilson H. Taylor Resident Scholar in Health Care and Retirement Policy at the American Enterprise Institute.

The program will be preceded by a reception sponsored by the Truman Library Institute.

All events listed in the calendar are free unless noted.
