Relive the stories of World War I through unpublished diaries and letters from nurses, journalists and doughboys in this three-part film series that originally aired last year on PBS. Called “Enormously absorbing” by The Wall Street Journal, The Great War tells the captivating story of the bloodiest war the world had ever seen and how this conflict turned the United States into a dominant player on the international stage.

Join the National Park Service and the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum for the first part of this film, presented in honor of the 100-year anniversary of the Battle of Who Run, which was the first time Captain Truman and Battery D faced combat. Part 2 will be shown on Thursday, October 11, and the final part will be shown as part of the Truman Library’s Veterans Day event on Sunday, November 11.

This screening is presented in conjunction with ‘Heroes or Corpses’: Captain Truman in World War I, the Truman Library’s special exhibition on Harry Truman’s military service and how it helped set him on the path toward the presidency.
