During the war in Vietnam, medics, corpsman, and nurses were the “first responders,” performing lifesaving medicine—often with complete disregard for their own safety. Tonight, in partnership with the National Library of Medicine, a panel of Vietnam veterans and historians will recount their experiences and explain the duties of medical personnel in Vietnam.  Moderated by Dr. Dale Smith, Professor of Military Medicine & History, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  Panelists include Ret. Col. Merle Snyder (DUSTOFF helicopter pilot), Ret. Maj. Gen. Donna Barbisch (U.S. Army Nurse), Dr. Tom Berger (U.S. Navy Corpsman), and Ret. Col. Donald Hall (Gulf War Medic and medical support historian).

Presented in part by the Lawrence F. O’Brien Family, Pritzker Military Museum & Library, AARP, FedEx Corporation, and the National Archives Foundation. Additional support provided by the Maris S. Cuneo Foundation, The Eliasberg Family Foundation, Inc., and HISTORY.
