Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum
In partnership with the Independence chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Library will host guest speaker James Theres to discuss his documentary “The Hello Girls” which tells the story of 223 women sent to France during WWI to serve as telephone operators to help win the war. Though members of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, their service was not recognized until 60 years after they came home. The documentary features rare 100-year old film courtesy of the National Archives. After screening the film, Mr. Theres will conduct a Q&A session about America’s first female soldiers. Cost to attend the Bess Truman Birthday Commemoration is free for Truman Library Institute members or with paid admission to the museum: $8 for adults, $7 for seniors.
