Doris Hamburg's responsibilities at the Library of Congress include condition stabilization, housing and treatment of the Library’s rare collections; monitoring and recommending improvements for environment for all of the Library’s collections, and development of a range of preventive conservation initiatives.

Steve Herman has been in this position more than 20 years. Among his current projects at the Library of Congress are collections, security, implementation of the newly acquired integrated library system, and planning for off-site storage.
