Washington, DC . . . At 8:45 AM on Wednesday, November 8, 1995, the National Archives at College Park, Maryland will make available to the public additional materials relating to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This opening is pursuant to the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of l992 that established the Collection which consists of assassination-related records of the Federal government.

The newly released materials include 36 boxes from the "Segregated Collection" of CIA records pertaining to the assassination. These records consists of documents created by the staff of the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) during its review of CIA records. Among the records are: correspondence between the Committee and CIA; notes taken by HSCA staff during reviews of CIA records and interviews of CIA personnel; transcripts of interviews conducted in Mexico City; and drafts of issue summaries and sections of the Committee's report. Many of these documents are released with segments postponed.

Also included in this release are records of the FBI pertaining to Carlos Marcello (4 boxes), anti-Cuban activist Orlando Bosch Avila (8 boxes) and other subjects of interest to the HSCA. Approximately 300 pages of daily shift reports of the White House Detail from the records of the United States Secret Service for the month of November 1963 are also being opened for the first time.

Forty-eight documents from the Department of State's Passport Office that were recently transferred to the National Archives are being released in full.

Fifty-two FBI and CIA documents released by the Assassination Records Review Board on October 19 and October 26 are also available for research the National Archives College Park facility.

Research Room hours are: Monday and Wednesday 8:45 AM - 5 PM; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:45 AM - 9 PM; Saturday 8:45 AM - 4:45 PM. Research cards are required. Personal property, ie. notebooks, briefcases, purses or fountain pens are not allowed in the research room. Lockers are available. Debit cards may be purchased for the photocopying machines.

DIRECTIONS: Archives II is located at 8601 Adelphi Road.

BY CAR the new facility is approximately 40 minutes from downtown Washington, DC. Take North Capitol Street north, turn right onto Michigan Avenue, (Michigan Avenue becomes Queens Chapel Road in Maryland,) continue to East West Highway, turn left on Adelphi Road and follow it to the Archives II entrance on the right. Parking is available.

BY SHUTTLE from the National Archives in Washington, DC, board the bus on 7th Street between Pennsylvania and Constitution Avenues. The shuttle leaves on the hour, from 8 AM to 5 PM, returning to the downtown building from Archives II on the hour. Researchers may use the shuttle on a space available basis with National Archives staff members receiving priority boarding.
