Archivist of the United States Appoints New Director of the Reagan Library

Washington, DC. . . . Archivist of the United States John W. Carlin announced today the appointment of Mark A. Hunt as Director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California, effective May 1, 1996. Mr. Hunt is currently Director of the National Scouting Museum of the Boy Scouts of America at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. During his tenure at the museum, Mr. Hunt was responsible for the management and administration of all facets of the museum. He initiated a development program that enhanced the museum's holdings and provided funding for increased operations and widely expanded the museum audience through a variety of outreach programs.

In making the announcement, the Archivist said, "I am delighted that Mr. Hunt has agreed to become the new director of the Reagan Library. His expertise in administration and his commitment to outreach will ensure that the Reagan Library will continue to serve the public and to make materials relating to the Reagan Administration widely accessible."

Previously, Mr. Hunt was Director of Museums and Historic Properties for the Kansas State Historical Society from 1988 to 1990, where he oversaw an evaluation and study of the state's 19 historic sites and developed a long-range plan for their rehabilitation and re-interpretation. As Director of the Kansas Museum of History, he was responsible for the design and development of a new 90,000 square foot museum facility.

Mr. Hunt graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Political Science from Washburn University of Topeka, Kansas, and completed his masters degree in History Museum Studies through the Cooperstown Graduate Program, State University College at Oneonta, New York. He also graduated from the Museum Management Institute, University of California, Berkley.

The Reagan Library is one of nine Presidential Libraries operated by the National Archives.
