Washington, D.C. . . On Wednesday, September 10, the National Archives and Records Administration will present a panel discussion on the recent research efforts to locate Jewish assets from World War II in Swiss banks. The free talk will be presented from 12:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. in the National Archives theater, at the National Archives downtown building, Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, NW.

For the past 18 months, hundreds of researchers have searched the National Archives for records relating to gold looted by the Nazis; Jewish assets in Swiss banks; heirless assets in American banks; trade between Germany and neutral countries; and the United States Government's role in identifying, controlling and restitution of looted property. This sustained research interest was prompted by Congressional inquiries, litigation and President Clinton's desire for a full accounting of what transpired during and after World War II. The latter effort was led by the Interagency Group on Nazi Assets, headed by Stuart E. Eizenstat, now the Under Secretary of State.

The panel participants are Dr. Greg Bradsher, a senior NARA archivist and NARA's representative on this issue; Gregg Rickman of Senator Alphonse D'Amato's staff; and Miriam Kleiman of the law firm of Cohen, Milstein, Hausfeld, and Toll. After the panelists' discussion of the research and findings, there will be question-and-answer period.
