National Archives at College Park Presents Film Screening of Kitty - Return to Auschwitz and Discussion with Producer

College Park, MD. . . The National Archives at College Park will present a free screening of the film Kitty -- Return to Auschwitz and a discussion with the producer, Mr. Peter Morley, OBE (Order of the British Empire) on August 7, 1998, at noon in the Auditorium. Kitty -- Return to Auschwitz (60 minutes) tells the story of English radiographer Kitty Hart’s return pilgrimage to the camp. Accompanied by her son, Kitty paints a true portrait of life in the camp. This is a story of survival, of living and dying, of courage and freedom. This 1980 documentary film is the winner of five awards, including the Royal Television Society Documentary Award; the Commonwealth Film and Television Festival Award; and the 1985 Tokyo Prize.

Mr. Morley lives in London, England and is a well-known producer and director of documentary films. A member of the British post-World War II documentary movement, he has made films for government departments, industry, and educational purposes. Since 1955, Mr. Morley has produced and directed more than 300 films or programs for both the British Broadcasting Corporation and ITV networks. He has maintained high interest in archival film materials and has much experience in the holdings of the British National Film Archives, as well as private collections. His television programs have been used by the British Film Institute’s London Museum of Moving Images to illustrate the use and misuse of archival film material. Other notable achievements include: directing Winston Churchill’s State Funeral and being the first documentary film maker to work with the Royal Family. Honors include: Fellow of the Royal Television Society; Founder, Member, and Trustee of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts; Honorary Member of the British Film Institute; and an appointment to the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Director Peter Morley, OBE, will discuss his film experiences and the making of his film Kitty - Return to Auschwitz.
