National History Day Performances at the National Archives
Washington, DC . . . On Wednesday, June 17, 1998, the National Archives and Records Administration, in conjunction with National History Day, will present finalists in project boards and individual performances on the Portico and in the Rotunda of the National Archives Building. The theme of the 1998 National History Day competition is "Migrations in History: People, Ideas, Culture." The performances are free and open to the public. 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. Portico and Rotunda, Constitution Avenue, between 7th and 9th Streets, NW. For more information, the public may call (202) 501-5000.
Each year, more than half a million students make history come alive by creating imaginative theme-based exhibits, performances, documentaries, and papers through the National History Day program. National History Day has become the premier celebration of student excellence in social studies education. More than 600,000 students and 50,000 teachers participate nationwide. There are four competition categories: performances, media, papers, and project boards. For National History Day 1998, the theme is "Migrations in History: People, Ideas, Culture."
The National Archives cosponsors the events, which bring approximately 2,000 secondary student finalists annually to the campus of the University of Maryland at College Park. Finalists in the performances and project boards categories are invited to present their projects to the public on the Portico and in the Rotunda of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC.
