Constitution Films at the National Archives in September

Washington, DC . . . The National Archives and Records Administration present a free film series entitled Liberty: The American Revolution in conjunction with its month-long celebration of the 211th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States. Liberty!: The American Revolution is a dramatic six-part documentary chronicling the birth of the United States, using actors, historians, and eyewitness accounts of the time. The series dramatizes the unexpected events that transformed a prospering group of American colonists into revolutionaries who fought for, and obtained, their independence from Britain.

The screenings will be held in the theater of the National Archives Building, Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, NW and in the auditorium of the National Archives at College Park, which is located at 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, MD. Thursday, September 3 - Liberty!: The American Revolution
Episode 1, The Reluctant Revolutionaries. The British-imposed Stamp Act creates a firestorm throughout the colonies as Americans see their liberties and their power threatened. Produced by KTCA-TV, in association with Middlemarch Films. (60 minutes.) Noon. Theater

Friday, September 4 - Liberty!: The American Revolution
Episode 2, Blows Must Decide, chronicles the British occupation of Boston, Thomas Paine’s writing of Common Sense, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Produced by KTCA-TV, in association with Middlemarch Films. (60 minutes.) Noon. Theater.

Thursday, September 10 - Liberty!: The American Revolution
Episode 3, The Times that Try Men’s Souls. Days after the Declaration of Independence is signed, an immense British force drops anchor in New York Harbor and begins a string of battlesagainst Gen. George Washington’s army of untrained volunteers. Produced by KTCA-TV, in association with Middlemarch Films. (60 minutes.) 1:15 P.M. Theater.

Friday, September11- Liberty!: The American Revolution
Episode 4, Oh Fatal Ambition! Congress, hoping to take advantage of France’s rivalry with Britain, dispatches Benjamin Franklin to Versailles in late 1776 to request financial and military support. When France agrees, a world war begins. Produced by KTCA-TV, in association with Middlemarch Films. (60 minutes.) Noon. Theater.

Friday, September18 - Liberty!: The American Revolution
Episode 6, Are We to Be a Nation? Peace brings with it a new set of challenges: the country is bankrupt, and the states find themselves squabbling with one another over many issues. A Constitutional Convention, held in Philadelphia in 1787, to revise the Articles of Confederation, instead creates a blueprint for an entirely new system of government. Produced by KTCA-TV, in association with Middlemarch Films. (60 minutes.) Noon. Theater.
