December Films at the National Archives and Records Administration

The National Archives and Records Administration presents two free screenings in December. Fifty years ago, the United States responded to post-World War II economic and agricultural devastation in Europe with an unprecedented relief effort known as the Marshall Plan. This month, the National Archives will present two film programs commemorating the anniversary of this historic rescue effort.

The screenings are held at the downtown building in the fifth floor theater, Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, NW and at the National Archives auditorium at College Park, MD which is located at 8601 Adelphi Road. All programs are free and open to the public. The times and dates can be verified by calling the National Archives public events line at(202) 501-5000.

Friday, December 5 -- Marshall Plan series
Newsreel Theater: The Marshall Plan. A selection of newsreels and other short subjects from the motion picture holdings of the National Archives highlighting the history of the Marshall Plan. (60 minutes.) Noon. Theater.

Friday, December 12 -- Marshall Plan series
The Marshall Plan: Against the Odds, 1997. Roger Mudd narrates this new documentary on the most controversial rescue effort in history. The film combines archival footage and interviews with Europeans who reflect on the legacy and consequences of the Marshall Plan’s vision. Produced by the Educational Film Center. (60 minutes.) Noon. Theater.
