Public Papers of President Clinton Now Online
Press Release · Thursday, September 23, 1999

Washington, DC

The National Archives and Records Administration's Office of the Federal Register announced today that the public papers of President William J. Clinton, for the first half of 1997, are now available through the Internet. In cooperation with the Government Printing Office (GPO), through the GPO Access service at http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara, the Federal Register is making available a full-text searchable database, in both text and PDF formats. Users may view the book's frontispiece and photographic portfolio. HTML versions of the book's table of contents and indexes offer links to the page numbers cited. In addition, the HTML list of Presidential Documents published in the Federal Register links directly to the published text of documents that are not included in the hardcover edition of the book.

As subsequent volumes of public papers are published in hardcover by the Federal Register, they will be added online. Earlier Clinton volumes will also be added to the service on an incremental basis.

The public papers of the President consist of the papers and speeches of the President of the United States that were issued by the Office of the Press Secretary during a specified time period. The Federal Register has been publishing this collection since 1958. It includes the Papers of Presidents Herbert Hoover through William J. Clinton.
