Archivist of the United States Appoints New Director of the Roosevelt Library
College Park, MD...Archivist of the United States John W. Carlin announced today the appointment of Cynthia M. Koch as the new Director of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library in Hyde Park, New York, effective August 9, 1999.
In making the announcement, the Archivist said, "I am delighted that Dr. Koch has agreed to become the new Director of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library. As the Library moves forward with plans for the new visitor's center, it will benefit from Ms. Koch's experience with educational and cultural advocacy. Her demonstrated commitment to the preservation of history and her understanding of the administrative challenges of running a historical institution will ensure that the Roosevelt Library will continue to serve the public well."
Ms. Koch is currently the Associate Director of the Penn National Commission on Society, Culture and Community at the University of Pennsylvania, an international leadership group of scholars, political leaders, and shapers of public opinion convened to promote tolerance and public discourse. Previously, Ms. Koch was the Executive Director of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, from 1993 to 1997, where she was responsible for oversight of all activities designed to foster greater appreciation for and participation in public humanities programs in New Jersey. Ms. Koch was also the Director of the Old Barracks Museum in Trenton, New Jersey from 1979 to 1993.
Ms. Koch graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Pennsylvania State University. She received an M.A. and a Ph.D. in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania.
The Roosevelt Library is one of ten Presidential Libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration.
