The 4th Annual DC Metropolitan Area Archives Fair will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2001, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Smithsonian Institution's Ripley Center in Washington, DC. Sponsored by the Washington DC Caucus of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC), the Archives Fair is an opportunity for visitors to learn about archival collections in the metropolitan Washington DC area. The fair is free and open to the public.

Featuring over twenty exhibits focused on local, national and international history, the fair showcases regional archival collections by several Smithsonian museums and other organizations including the National Archives and Records Administration; the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress; the Washingtoniana Division of the DC Public Library; George Washington University; Arlington County Public Library; the Mount Vernon Library and United States Holocaust Museum Archives. Highlights of the daylong activities include computer demonstrations, videotape showings, and a lecture at 2:00p.m. by Ms. Nina Gilden Seavey of the Documentary Center at George Washington University. Ms. Gilden Seavey directed the Oscar winning documentary Paralyzing Fear: The Story of Polio in America. She will share her experiences conducting research in Archival institutions during her making of this award winning film designed to entertain as well as educate.

MARAC seeks to effect cooperation among individuals concerned with the documentation of the human experience, to enhance the exchange of information between colleagues working in the immediate regional area, and to encourage professional involvement of persons actively engaged in the acquisition, preservation, bibliographic control, and use of all types of historical research materials.
