The National Archives and Records Administration will hold genealogy workshops relating to Passenger Records, Beginning Genealogy Research, Writing Family History, Lesser Known Federal Records, and Preserving Your Family's Papers and Documents. The fee for each workshop is $15, payable at the door by check or exact amount in cash. Advance registration is required; call 202-501-6694.

The genealogy workshops will take place at the National Archives Building, Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, NW, in Room 105. The public may verify times and dates by calling 202 -501-6694.

Passenger Records Guest lecturer John P. Colletta, Ph.D., will explain how to use passenger records, including baggage lists, manifests, customs records, and immigration passenger lists. The focus is largely on post-1820 Federal records. 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m

Writing Family History You've gathered your family's stories, documents, information now what do you do? Guest lecturer John P. Colletta, Ph.D., explains how to organize and document the family history information and materials you've collected as well as how to write a readable narrative for future generations. 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Lesser Known Federal Records Guest lecturer Dr. John P. Colletta, Ph.D., explores a variety of Federal records that contain much biographical information and often genealogical leads: passport applications, 1791-1925; homestead files, 1862-1908; Civil War income tax records, 1862-1872; appointments of postmasters, 1789-1971; and Federal court records, 1789-1911. 9:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M.

Preserving Your Family's Papers and Documents Mary Lynn Ritzenthaler, supervisory conservator of NARA's Document Conservation Branch, will talk about ways to slow the deterioration of books, papers, and photographs and protect them from further damage. 9:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M.
