National Archives to Open New ReSource Room
Press Release · Monday, October 1, 2001

Washington, DC

Ever wonder how the billions of records are stored and cared for at the National Archives? Do you want to get a close look at the new housing for the Charters of Freedom? Would you like to find out what it is like to do research at the National Archives?

The National Archives new ReSource Room is an innovative hands-on learning center located in the National Archives Building on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 7th and 9th Streets, NW. Beginning Tuesday, October 9, it will offer special "Behind-the-Scenes Experiences" to small groups of visitors. While the building is being renovated, the Rotunda, where the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights are usually on permanent display, is closed. This new center provides a window on the important work of the National Archives, showing visitors how documents are preserved and made available to the public.

The scheduled reserved visits are offered Monday through Friday at 10:15 AM and 1:15 PM, and will last 1 1/2 hours. Each visit is limited to 15 persons. To make reservations, call 202-501-5205 between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday-Friday.

For press information, or to schedule a press tour, contact the National Archives Public Affairs Staff at 301-837-1700.
