Abraham Lincoln Symposium at the National Archives at College Park, MD, Saturday, March 27

College Park, MD. . . On Saturday, March 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the National Archives will host the Seventh Annual Symposium, "The Latest in Lincoln Scholarship." The symposium is free and open to both scholars and the general public, and includes a luncheon reception. The National Archives at College Park is located at 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, MD 20740. Reservations are required; call 202-501-5000.

The acclaimed annual event is sponsored by the Abraham Lincoln Institute, Inc., and the National Archives, with matching funding from the Lincoln Institute of New Rochelle, NY. Authors will be signing their books, which will be available for sale.

Speakers and topics will include:

PROFESSOR JAMES M. McPHERSON of Princeton University is a Pulitzer Prize and Lincoln Prize winner and author of or contributor to several dozen highly regarded works, including Battle Cry of Freedom, Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam and Hallowed Ground: A Walk at Gettysburg. He will present his portrait of "Lincoln as Commander-in-Chief."

PROFESSOR WILLIAM C. HARRIS of North Carolina State University and author of With Charity for All: Lincoln and the Restoration of the Union and Lincoln's Last Months will speak on "Lincoln and Trade Through the Lines."

PROFESSOR SILVANA R. SIDDALI of Saint Louis University is nationally recognized for her scholarly treatments of Northern public attitudes toward the Constitution, slavery, and the South during the Civil War period. Dr. Siddali's topic is "An Act of Justice: The Emancipation Proclamation, Slave Property, and Northern Public Opinion."

PROFESSOR BRIAN R. DIRCK of Anderson University and author of Lincoln & Davis: Imagining America, 1809-1865, will present "Lincoln the Lawyer."

NELSON D. LANKFORD, EDITOR of the Virginia Magazine of History and Biography and author of Richmond Burning: The Last Days of the Confederate Capital, will speak on "Lincoln in Richmond."
