National Archives Hosts Fourth of July Celebration

WHAT:
The National Archives will celebrate the 229th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence with its traditional Fourth of July program. The theme of this year's annual program is "Declaration Days: National Archives Family Weekend 4th of July Celebration."
The two day-long program will include patriotic music, a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence, and exciting free family activities and entertainment for all ages.
WHEN:
Sunday, July 3, 2005 and Monday, July 4, 2005, 11 A.M. - 4 P.M.
Monday, July 4, 2005 - Ceremony: 10 A.M.-11 A.M.
Exhibits and Family Activities: 11 A.M.- 4 P.M.

Constitution Avenue steps, National Archives Building
Between 7th and 9th Streets, NW, Washington, DC

Declaration Days: National Archives Family Weekend 4th of July Celebration
This popular family event is free and open to the public. Seating on the Constitution Avenue steps is available on a first-come, first-seated basis. Highlights of the morning program and family activities that will be held throughout "Declaration Days" include:
- The Original Charters of Freedom - the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
- A dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence.
- Presentation of Colors by the Buffalo Soldiers -9th and 10th Cavalry Association
- The chance to sign a replica of the Declaration of Independence in invisible ink!
- Historical Figures of 1776: John and Abigail Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Dolly Madison, Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, and soldier, Ned Hector portrayed by "Time Travelers" from the nationally acclaimed acting troupe of the American Historical Theatre.
- The new Public Vaults exhibition.
- Patriotic Colonial music.
- A Public Vaults Treasure Hunt.
- Learning about the use of trickery and deception in espionage from History is a Hoot.
Stay and enjoy front row seats for America's 2005 Independence Day Parade following the ceremony on July 4.
