Classified National Security Information: The Vision, the Reality, the Future

Washington, DC…The Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) will hold a symposium on classified national security information on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 from 9 AM to 1 PM. The event will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building, which is located on Constitution Ave. at 9th St., NW, and is fully accessible. This symposium marks the 10-year anniversary of Executive Order 12958, as amended, and will offer a retrospective regarding the original vision of this groundbreaking framework along with a review of its impact to date. The symposium will also assess remaining challenges to be overcome in order to fully implement the President's direction in this area.

ISOO is responsible to the President for policy and oversight of the Government-wide security classification system and the National Industrial Security Program. ISOO receives its authority from Executive Orders 12958 "Classified National Security Information" and 12829 "National Industrial Security Program", as amended. ISOO is a component of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and receives policy and program guidance from the National Security Council (NSC).
