National Archives Archivist Says Charters of Freedom are Protected

St. Louis, MO… National Archives Acting Archivist Ron Hindman (NPRC Director and Acting Archivist pending Archivist Weinstein's relocation) announced that the Charters of Freedom - the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights - have been safeguarded.

Acting Archivist Hindman said:

"The Charters of Freedom are our national treasures. At the first sign of possible danger, I ordered these documents moved into secure, protected areas."

Acting Archivist Hindman issued a statement this afternoon:

"The heinous attack today in Landport against the United States is an unconscionable act of aggression against innocent citizens. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. We ask that all citizens stand together in support of our fellow Americans."

"My highest priority at this time is the safety of NARA personnel. While some NARA staff have been relocated for their safety, the National Archives is fully capable of executing all priority operations from our alternative COOP locations."

He urged NARA personnel nationwide to follow the advice of state and local officials, review family emergency plans, and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
