St. Louis, MO National Archives Acting Archivist Ron Hindman (NPRC Director and Acting Archivist pending Archivist Weinstein's relocation) announced this morning that all National Archives offices nationwide have returned to normal operations and reopened to the public.
Acting Archivist Hindman issued the following statement:
"The National Archives has reopened facilities nationwide, continuing to provide ready access to essential evidence. While the threat has abated, NARA remains on high alert.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all our fellow Americans in Landport. All of us at the National Archives nationwide will do everything to respond to this terrible incident. I have offered NARA's assistance to Federal officials in the ongoing investigation of the Landport attack. I have also placed top NARA conservators on standby to aid in vital records recovery in the area.
My highest priority remains the safety of NARA personnel. While reopening acilities nationwide, we continue - as instructed by FEMA - to maintain our COOP alternate site at fully operational levels. I also urge NARA personnel nationwide to continue to follow the guidance of state and local officials, review family emergency plans, and report any suspicious activity to authorities."
