A National Archives "American Conversation" with Lindy Boggs and Cokie Roberts

Washington, DC… Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein will host an "American Conversation" on Wednesday, May 10 at 7 pm with former Congresswoman Lindy Boggs and her daughter, noted journalist Cokie Roberts. They will discuss their mother/daughter relationship in an influential political family. Preceding the Conversation will be the world premier screening of Lindy Boggs: Steel and Velvet (2006, 60 min.) Directed by Bess Carrick and co-produced by Louisiana Public Broadcasting and Bess Carrick, Blackbird Films. Reservations are required.

This program is part of a new National Archives series of discussions on American history and identity. Lynne Cheney, Lonnie Bunch, Norman Ornstein, Ken Burns, and John Hope Franklin were featured in previous "American Conversations." Events in this series are held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, located on the National Mall at Constitution Ave. and 7th Street, NW, and fully accessible. All programs in the "American Conversations" series are free and open to the public. Lindy Boggs served nine terms in the House of Representatives representing Louisiana's 2nd congressional district-the first woman elected to the House from that state. She was the first woman to chair a national political convention and the first woman to serve as Ambassador to the Vatican. Mrs. Boggs is the author of Washington Through a Purple Veil.

Cokie Roberts is a political commentator for ABC News covering Congress, politics, and public policy. She has won countless journalistic awards including three Emmy Awards®. She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and was cited by American Women in Radio and Television as one of the fifty greatest women in the history of broadcasting. Her books include We Are Our Mothers' Daughters and Founding Mothers.
