National Archives to Host Public Interest Declassification Board Meeting January 19, 2007

WHAT: The tenth meeting of the Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB)
to discuss declassification program issues. This meeting will include presentations from selected representatives of the public with significant experience in declassification matters and will include discussion of potential modifications to current declassification processes and policies.

WHO: Speakers will include:

  • PIDB Chair L. Britt Snider
  • Information Security and Oversight Office (ISOO) Director J. William Leonard
  • Mr. Mark S. Zaid, Esq.
  • Ms. Meredith Fuchs
  • Mr. Scott Armstrong

WHEN: Friday, January 19, 2007, 9:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.

This meeting is open to the public. However, due to space limitations and access procedures, the name and telephone number of individuals planning to attend must be submitted to the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO). Information may be submitted electronically to PIDB@nara.gov or by telephone to 202-357-5250 no later than Wednesday, January 17, 2007. ISOO will provide additional instructions for gaining access to the location of the meeting.

Background

The Public Interest Declassification Board is an advisory committee established by Congress in order to promote the fullest possible public access to a thorough, accurate, and reliable documentary record of significant U.S. national security decisions and activities. The Board is composed of nine individuals, five appointed by the President and four by the Congressional leadership. In addition to Mr. Snider, current Presidential appointees include Martin Faga, Steven Garfinkel, and Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker. The Minority Leader of the House appointed David Skaggs, the Majority Leader of the Senate appointed Joan Vail Grimson, and the Speaker of the House appointed Admiral William O. Studeman, USN (Ret).
