The National Archives Hosts World Premiere and Panel Discussion of New Documentary "Muse of Fire," March 14

Washington, DC…On Wednesday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m., the National Archives, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), presents the world premiere of a new documentary film inspired by the NEA’s acclaimed program Operation Homecoming. Directed by Larry Bridges (Red Car Inc.), the film Muse of Fire features readings and interviews about wartime writing and the creative process. The film includes distinguished military journalist Mark Bowden (Blackhawk Down), award-winning poet Marilyn Nelson (The Fields of Praise), and best-selling novelist Jeff Shaara (The Rising Tide), as well as U.S. troops and their families.

A panel discussion with NEA Chairman Dana Gioia; Andrew Carroll, editor of the book Operation Homecoming: Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Home Front in the Words of U.S. Troops and Their Families; and Jeff Shaara will follow the film screening. The panelists will address the Operation Homecoming program and the preservation of wartime writing.

The program is free and open to the public and will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, which is located on the National Mall at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, NW, and is fully accessible. Operation Homecoming: Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Home Front in the Words of U.S. Troops and Their Families will be available for purchase. The authors will sign books at the conclusion of the program.
