National Archives to Host Public Interest Declassification Board Meeting Feb. 24

The eleventh meeting of the Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB)
to discuss declassification program issues. The meeting will include a briefing by select representatives of the Public on their experiences with the declassification system and a presentation by the Interagency Security Classification Appeals Panel (ISCAP) staff.

Speakers will include:

  • PIDB Vice-Chair David E. Skaggs
  • Information Security and Oversight Office (ISOO) Director, J. William Leonard
  • Representatives of the Public, Mr. Steven Aftergood and Mr. Bruce Berkowitz
  • ISCAP staff, William J. Bosanko and Kristofer L. Johnson

This meeting is open to the public. However, due to space limitations and access procedures, the name and telephone number of individuals planning to attend must be submitted to the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO). Information may be submitted electronically to or by telephone to 202-357-5039 no later than Monday, February 19th. ISOO will provide additional instructions for gaining access to the location of the meeting.


The Public Interest Declassification Board is an advisory committee established by Congress in order to promote the fullest possible public access to a thorough, accurate, and reliable documentary record of significant U.S. national security decisions and activities. The Board is composed of nine individuals, five appointed by the President and four by the Congressional leadership. In addition to Mr. Snider, current Presidential appointees include Martin Faga, Steven Garfinkel, and Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker. The Minority Leader of the House appointed David Skaggs, the Majority Leader of the Senate appointed Joan Vail Grimson, and the Speaker of the House appointed Admiral William O. Studeman, USN (Ret).
