The National Archives Presents an American Conversation with Cokie Roberts on May 7

Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation

Washington, DC…On Wednesday, May 7, at 7 PM, Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein welcomes Cokie Roberts for a discussion of her newest book, Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation. The program will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building. A book signing will follow the program.

In Ladies of Liberty, Ms. Roberts tells the story of remarkable women and their achievements in moving the fledgling nation forward. She reveals the often surprising and compelling stories of determined and passionate women who faced the challenges of the times and laid the groundwork for a better society. Drawing on personal correspondence, private journals, and other primary sources, Ms. Roberts captures the heart and soul of the American spirit and offers new insights on the women who have helped make our nation great.

The “American Conversations” series focuses on American history and identity. Senators Harry Reid, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Former First Lady Barbara Bush, and David McCullough, are among those featured in previous programs, some of which may be viewed on the National Archives web site.

Cokie Roberts is a political commentator for ABC News covering Congress, politics, and public policy. She has won countless journalistic awards including three Emmy Awards®. She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and was cited by American Women in Radio and Television as one of the fifty greatest women in the history of broadcasting. Her books include We Are Our Mothers’ Daughters and Founding Mothers.

The National Archives Building in Washington, DC, is located on the National Mall at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, NW and is fully accessible. All programs in the “American Conversations” series are free and open to the public. Seating for this program is on a first-come, first-served basis.
