Archivist of the United States Names Leonard as Senior Counselor

Washington, DC…Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein announced today that J. William Leonard, Director of the Information Security Oversight Office, who will be retiring from the post at year’s end, has agreed to become Senior Counselor to the Archivist beginning in January 2008. “Bill Leonard is the gold standard of information specialists in the Federal government, maintaining at all times a balanced and judicious perspective on the complex issues confronted by the National Archives,” Professor Weinstein said. “We will welcome him in his new role, which will continue to give us the benefit of his wise advice and counsel in the years ahead,” he added.

Mr. Leonard expressed enthusiasm concerning his post-retirement role as Senior Counselor to the Archivist, stating “I look forward to the opportunity to continue to participate in the essential role fulfilled by the National Archives in our nation's democracy.”
