Oscar®-Nominated Films to Screen in DC at National Geographic and National Archives

Beverly Hills, CA — All of the Oscar-nominated films in the documentary, short and foreign language film categories will be screened for the public in Washington DC between February 14 and 24 – the day of the 80th Academy Awards® presentation. The screenings will be presented by National Geographic’s All Roads Film Project and the National Archives and Records Administration, in collaboration with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Beginning February 14, National Geographic will present the five films nominated in the Foreign Language Film award category as a series entitled “Global Glimpses.” Screenings will be held at the Gilbert H. Grosvenor Auditorium at the organization’s headquarters building. This is the first time National Geographic has presented a series of Oscar-nominated films in partnership with the Academy.

Starting on February 20, the films nominated in the Live Action Short Film, Animated Short Film, Documentary Short Subject and Documentary Feature categories will be presented at the William G. McGowan Theater in the National Archives Building. This will be the fourth consecutive year for this presentation by the Academy in partnership with The Charles Guggenheim Center for the Documentary Film at the National Archives and the Foundation for the National Archives.

“I am thrilled that DC residents and visitors will have this opportunity,” said Academy President Sid Ganis. “The films nominated in these five categories are always exceptional works, and I couldn’t be happier that movie lovers in the nation’s capital will be able to see them prior to the Oscar telecast.”

Tickets for the National Geographic screenings of the Foreign Language Film nominees are $7 for each film. A pass to see all five nominees can be purchased for $25. Tickets and passes will go on sale January 4, 2008. They may be purchased in person at the National Geographic ticket office, online at www.nglive.org or by phone at (202) 857-7700. National Geographic is located at 1600 M Street, NW (Metro: Farragut North [red line], Farragut West [orange/blue lines]). Free underground parking is available on weekdays after 6 p.m. and on weekends.

Tickets for the screenings at the National Archives are free. They will be distributed beginning 60 minutes prior to the start time of each screening. The National Archives Building is located at 700 Pennsylvania Ave., NW; the entrance for special events is on Constitution Ave. (Metro: Archives/Navy memorial [yellow, green lines]). The 80th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2007 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PT. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.
