Contact Information

College Park, MD…Effective July 1, 2008, the National Archives and Records Administration will no longer provide court case review services at its archival research facility on Varick Street in New York City. This change applies to all closed business and personal bankruptcy case files, and civil and criminal case files from Federal courts in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands stored at the National Archives’ Federal Records Center (FRC) in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

The National Archives will continue to provide access to these records for the courts and the courts’ customers directly through our Lee’s Summit FRC. Services provided will include shipping the records back to the individual courts, if requested, for on-site customer review, and supplying copies of court records directly to the customer through fax or mail order. Fees, service times, and other procedures will not change under this new policy.

Public customers seeking direct access to review court files in New York and New Jersey should go to their local court offices to request the files from the Lee’s Summit FRC. More information about ordering copies of court records from the Lee’s Summit FRC is available online.

NARA's Federal Records Center Program is dedicated to providing superior records storage, access, and disposition services. This integrated approach yields great benefits to customers, as NARA is an active participant in the lifecycle of Federal records from their creation through their disposition. The program is administered by a professional staff that is familiar with Federal agencies, Federal records, and Federal records management needs.

Contact Markus Most, Director of Operations (301-837-1643, for questions about this policy change. Contact Theresa Mellon, Reference Coordinator (816-268-8145, for questions regarding access to specific court records.
