Special Programs Highlight National Archives Records in June

Washington, DC…In June, the National Archives will feature programs highlighting records from its holdings. All programs are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted, and will be held in the National Archives Building in Washington, DC. Please note that four of the programs will be repeated at the National Archives at College Park, Maryland, in Lecture Room B.

Visitors to all programs in the National Archives Building Research Center (Room G-24) should use the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance, between 7th and 9th Streets, NW. The National Archives at College Park, MD, is located at 8601 Adelphi Road. See directions to both locations.

Social Media and the National Archives Part I: Flickr and YouTube
Staff from the National Archives social media team discuss how the National Archives is using various forms of Internet communication and how the public can benefit. The first of two parts, this talk will focus on Flickr and YouTube. (The lecture will be repeated at the National Archives at College Park, MD, in Lecture Room B, Thursday, June 3, at 11 a.m.)

Drink Up! Illustrations of American Industry Found in Ornamental Letterhead
National Archives staff Kenneth Heger, Deputy Director of Access Programs, and Shawn Russell, Customer Service Representative, will use the ornamental letterhead of American industries to discover illustrations of life in America as an alternative to photographs. Beyond the Basics on the Freedman's Savings & Trust Company: Records of African-American and Immigrant Depositors
Archives staff teach “beyond the basic” archival research skills on the third Wednesday of the month. The June topic is the Freedman's Savings & Trust Company: Records of African American and Immigrant Depositors.

Beyond the Basics on Finding Aids
Archives staff present a special 90-minute “beyond the basics” genealogy research skills lecture on how to use National Archives finding aids. After a summer break, the next presentation is Saturday, September 18.

“Help! I’m Stuck”
Not sure where to begin? Has a genealogical problem stumped you? Would you like to explore new directions in your research? An archivist is available from noon to 4 p.m. to answer questions. Look for the “Help! I’m Stuck” sign at the Research Center desk. After a summer break, the next such presentation is Saturday, September 18.
