Special Programs Highlight National Archives Records in September

Washington, DC…In September, the National Archives will feature programs highlighting records from its holdings. All programs are free and open to the public, and will be held in the National Archives Building in Washington, DC. Please note that three of the programs will be repeated at the National Archives at College Park, Maryland, in Lecture Room B.

Visitors to all programs in the National Archives Building Research Center (Room G-24) should use the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance, between 7th and 9th Streets, NW. Note: please use the Special Events Entrance on Constitution Avenue and 7th Street for the program held in the Adams Presidential Conference Room. The National Archives at College Park, MD, is located at 8601 Adelphi Road. See directions to both locations.

Introduction to Genealogy
Wednesday, September 1, at 11 a.m.

Archives staff present a lecture on basic genealogical research in Federal records on the first Wednesday of the month.

Access to Archival Databases (AAD) for Genealogists
Tuesday, September 7, at 11 a.m.

Archives specialist Daniel Law will introduce electronic records and discuss how to access these records on our Access to Archival Databases (AAD) online resource. (This lecture will be repeated at the National Archives at College Park, MD, in Lecture Room B, on Thursday, September 9, at 11 a.m.).

Finding Hispanic Ancestors on Footnote.com

From the Records Book Group—The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War
Wednesday, September 22, at 11 a.m. & noon
Adams Presidential Conference Room

The book group will hold a presentation at 11 a.m. followed by a discussion at noon on The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War, by David Halberstam. The book is available at a discount from the Archives Shop (202-357-5271) before and during the event.

National Declassification Center Process

National Declassification Center archivist, Neil Carmichael, discusses the new process for meeting President Obama’s 2013 deadline for processing 408 million pages of classified national security information. (The lecture will be repeated at the National Archives at College Park, MD, in Lecture Room B, Thursday, September 30, at 11 a.m.)
