Celebrity Chefs José Andrés and Diana Kennedy to speak

Washington, DC…In September, the National Archives will hold two special programs in celebration of Hispanic American Heritage Month. These events are free and open to the public, and will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, located on the National Mall at Constitution Ave. and 7th Street, NW.
Thursday, September 15, at 7 PM, William G. McGowan Theater
American Eats Series: A Conversation with Diana Kennedy and José Andrés
Acclaimed as the Julia Child of Mexican cooking, for more than 50 years Diana Kennedy has brought Mexican cuisine to the world and taught generations of American as well as Mexican cooks how to prepare and savor the delicious, subtle, and varied tastes of Mexico. Kennedy and celebrity chef José Andrés will celebrate Hispanic American Heritage Month with a discussion of Mexican food and its far-reaching effects on American cuisine. A book signing of Kennedy’s Oaxaca al Gusto will follow the program; the book is available at a discount from the Archives Shop (202-357-5271) before and during the event.
Saturday, September 24, at noon, William G. McGowan Theater
Tortilla Soup
The National Archives presents this 2001 comedy about a retired Mexican-American chef (Hector Elizondo) and his three daughters. This film was directed by Maria Ripoll. (102 minutes)
The National Archives is fully accessible. Spring/Summer hours (through Labor Day) are 10 AM – 7 PM daily. Fall/Winter hours are 10 AM-5:30 PM daily.
