Expert panel to discuss balance between public access and security

Washington, DC…On Thursday, March 3, at 7 PM, the National Archives presents a panel discussion on “Protecting Our National Treasures: The Impact and Prevention of Archival Theft.” This program is free and open to the public, and will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, located on the National Mall at Constitution Ave. and 7th Street, NW. Metro accessible on the Yellow and Green lines, Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter station.
All repositories of historical records and artifacts are faced with the challenge to keep those holdings secure. Paul Brachfeld, Inspector General for the National Archives, will be joined by Anne Sprightley Ryan, Inspector General for the Smithsonian Institution; Karl Schornagel, Inspector General for the Library of Congress; Kelly Maltagliati, Special Agent for the National Archives Office of the Inspector General; and Eric Peterson, head of the National Archives Holdings Protection Team. This expert panel will discuss the balance between providing access to researchers and visitors while maintaining security.
