2,000 Local Students Witness -Original Intent- at the Nixon Library
Press Release · Thursday, January 20, 2011

Yorba Linda, CA

Oyez, Oyez! On February 1 and 2, 2011, two-thousand eighth-grade students from the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District will witness Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson debate the ideas that shaped our nation. Accomplished actors Ian Rose and Steven Edenbo, who will play the roles of Hamilton and Jefferson, will perform four shows, two each day.

This historical theater, which is jointly sponsored by the Nixon Library, the Nixon Foundation, Yorba Linda Unified School district and FIRST (Fullerton International Resources for Schools and Teachers) from CSU Fullerton. While at a Teaching American History grant workshop over the summer, Jeremy Kelly and Jennie Bremer expressed the wish to see the founders’ discussions of liberty and freedom in the Early Republic brought to life for their students.

The shows are only open to eighth grade students from Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District. A companion program will be held for District U.S. History Teachers in the evening to expand their content understanding related to this historical event as well as learning some strategies for teaching it in the classroom.
