The Civil War changed the United States in many ways, and none was more important than Emancipation and its effects on the U.S. Army. From 1862 to 1865, the Federal Government accepted more than 180,000 black men as soldiers. Author William A. Dobak tells the story of these soldiers’ recruitment, organization, and service and focuses on the contribution they made to the Union victory. A book signing will follow the program.
