Richard Nixon Legacy Forum: Nixon to Reagan, Reshaping the Supreme Court

Washington, DC…On Tuesday, November 13, at 1 p.m., the National Archives hosts the Richard Nixon Legacy Forum:  Nixon to Reagan, Reshaping the Supreme Court. Presented in partnership with the Richard Nixon Foundation, an expert panel will examine the evolution of the selection process of Supreme Court candidates.

Richard Nixon’s four appointments to the Supreme Court signaled the end of the activist Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren and marked significant changes in the selection process itself. The panel, whose experience extends from Nixon through George W. Bush, will examine how these changes came about—and how such changes still influence such selections today. Moderated by Kevin McMahon, presidential scholar and author of Nixon's Court:  His Challenge to Judicial Liberalism and Its Political Consequences, the panel will include Fred Fielding, Associate Counsel for Nixon; Wallace Johnson, Assistant Attorney General for Land and Natural Resources in the Nixon administration; and Tom Korologos, aide to Nixon on Senate relations.

This public program is free and no registration is required. It will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC. Attendees should use the Special Events entrance on Constitution Avenue at 7th Street, NW.
