Press Release · Friday, November 8, 2013

Washington, DC

Washington, DC…Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero announced today the publication of the 2013 edition of The United States Government Manual, the official handbook of the Federal Government.

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) joins the Nation in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom with its cover of The Stone of Hope Statue at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, near the Lincoln Memorial, on the shore of the Tidal Basin.

The new 620-page Manual provides up-to-date information about all three branches of the Federal Government, including the name, programs, and activities of the each Federal agency; a complete listing of top Obama administration officials, the Members of Congress, and senior members and officers of the Judiciary; and essential information on other Government boards and commissions, quasi-official agencies, and international organizations.

A special feature of this invaluable book is the Sources of Information section, which lists addresses and telephone numbers for each agency for employment, contract and grant opportunities, publications, films, and other services available to the public.

In addition, the volume contains agency organizational charts, a list defining commonly used Federal abbreviations and acronyms, and a detailed section on Federal agencies that have been terminated, transferred, or changed in name since March 1933.

The Manual has been compiled and published by the Office of the Federal Register of the National Archives and Records Administration since 1948.

The 2013 Manual (Stock Number 069-000-00216-1) may be purchased for $35.00 from the Superintendent of Documents, Government Printing Office (GPO).
