RFK Daughter Kerry Kennedy Discusses Her Father’s Legacy June 21

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, June 21, at noon, the National Archives presents the Robert F. Kennedy Legacy Program; daughter Kerry Kennedy will discuss her new book: Robert F. Kennedy: Ripples of Hope.  In Ripples of Hope, Kerry Kennedy captures the legacy of her father, former senator and U.S. attorney general Robert F. Kennedy, through interviews with dozens of prominent and international figures who have been inspired by him and his stands for civil rights, education, justice, and peace.

The event will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Museum in Washington, D.C. and live streamed on YouTube. Attendees should use the Special Events entrance on Constitution Avenue at 7th Street, NW.  This public program is free to the public, but reservations are recommended and can be made online. A book signing will follow the program.

Ripples of Hope captures the legacy of Robert F. Kennedy through commentary from his daughter, as well as interviews with dozens of prominent national and international figures who have been inspired by him. They include Barack Obama, John Lewis, Marian Wright Edelman, Alfre Woodard, Harry Belafonte, Bono, George Clooney, Gloria Steinem, and more. They share personal accounts and stories of how Kennedy's words, life, and values have influenced their lives, choices, and actions. Through these interviews, Kerry Kennedy aims to enlighten people anew about her father's legacy and bring to life RFK's values and passions, using as milestones the end of his last campaign and a life that was cut off much too soon.

Kerry Kennedy has been a human rights activist since 1981, and has led more than 40 human rights delegations to over 30 countries. In 1988, she established the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Center for Human Rights to ensure protection of rights codified under the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights. Until 1995, she also served as executive director of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial, a non-profit organization that addresses problems of social justice in the spirit of Robert Kennedy. She is the author of three books: Speak Truth to Power; Being Catholic Now; and RFK: Ripples of Peace.
