The National Archives Hosts Free Educational Programs this Fall and Winter

This fall and winter, the National Archives presents a special Native American Stories Family Day and a series of educational programs for all ages from preschool to adult, on topics ranging from Hula dancing to holiday cards and Thanksgiving at the White House! These programs will be held in the Boeing Learning Center of the National Archives Museum. With the exception of the February Sleepover, all are free and open to the public. Attendees should use the Special Events entrance on Constitution Avenue at 7th Street, NW. The building is Metro accessible on the Yellow and Green lines, Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter station.
November Programs
Native American Stories Family Day
Saturday, November 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
From the Cherokee to the Pueblo, 573 Native American tribes today are legally recognized by the U.S. Government. Learn about Native Americans and their relationships with the United States. And try your hand at deciphering Navajo code, creating a storyboard for a movie on athlete Jim Thorpe, or delving into treaties between the United States and Indian nations. Special guest Mokihana will demonstrate traditional hula dancing at 11 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Storytime with Mokihana at 1 p.m.
Storytime for Preschoolers and Adults
Tuesday, November 20, 10-11 a.m.
Join us for storytime designed for 3- to 5-year-olds and accompanying adults. Children will listen to a story, participate in group activities, and create a craft. The theme for November is Thanksgiving at the White House.
December Programs
Hands-on Adult Workshop: Create Inspired Holiday Cards!
Wednesday, December 5, 6-8 p.m.
Design holiday cards fit for a President! See government records including holiday cards from heads of state, heads of agencies, and heads of households, then create your own! Everyone will leave with one-of-a-kind creations to share with friends, family, and co-workers. Space is limited. Register online.
Story Time in the ReSource Room for Preschoolers and Adults
Wednesday, December 12, 10-11 a.m.
Join us for story time designed for 3-5 year olds and accompanying adults. Children will practice their listening skills, participate in group activities and create a craft. The theme for December is Lady Bird Johnson: The Environmentalist.

Museum Selfie Day

National Archives Sleepover
Saturday- Sunday, February 2-3
Ever wonder what the museum is like after the lights go out? Aside from sleeping next to America’s founding documents, guests will spend the evening learning about Native American records, their importance in today’s world, and more.
