Washington, DC

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) announced the appointment of Brooke L. Clement as the Director of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum, effective September 26, 2021.

Ms. Clement returns to the Ford Library and Museum after starting her NARA career there in 2004. Since that time, she has worked in senior management and archival positions at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, and most recently the Barack Obama Presidential Library. Ms. Clement has served as acting director of the Gerald R. Ford Library and Museum since September 2020.

Ms. Clement holds a Master of Liberal Arts in American Studies from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in American History and American Culture from the University of Michigan.

David S. Ferriero, Archivist of the United States, said of the appointment, “Ms. Clement’s background in directing archival programs and her experience in NARA’s Presidential Library system make her the ideal choice to lead the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum, and we look forward to continuing to work with her to advance NARA’s mission.”

“The Ford family is thrilled to learn that our next director at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum & Library will be Brooke Clement,” said Mike Ford, chair of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation. “Over the past year, Brooke, our family, and our Foundation have had numerous occasions to work directly with Brooke and see her in action. Brooke is thoughtful, professional, and passionate about the legacy of my father. We could not be more pleased to know that the archives and museum will be led by such a steady hand, and we look forward to working with Brooke for many years to come.”

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum, located respectively in Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids, Michigan, is one of 15 Presidential Libraries in the Presidential Library system administered by the National Archives. Presidential Libraries promote understanding of the presidency and the American experience. They preserve and provide access to historical materials, support research, and create interactive programs and exhibits that educate and inspire. The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum is supported in part by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization that provides financial support, staffing, marketing, program and creative resources.
