The National Archives Hosts “Discovering the Sussex Declaration” July 6 at noon

Washington, DC – On Thursday, July 6, at noon, the National Archives will host "Discovering the Sussex Declaration," a presentation on the recent identification of a second parchment manuscript of the Declaration of Independence.

The program is free and open to the public, and will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Museum in Washington, DC.  Attendees should use the Special Events entrance on Constitution Avenue at 7th Street, NW.  The building is Metro accessible on the Yellow and Green lines, Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter station.

The presentation will be given by Danielle Allen, Director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University and colleague Emily Sneff, Research Manager for the Declaration Resources Project.  

Allen and Sneff discovered this previously unknown parchment of the Declaration through the work of their Declaration Resources Project, based at Harvard University. The handwritten document was found buried in a provincial archive in Britain. The manuscript, dating from the 1780s, is written in the hand of a single clerk. This event will stream live online.
