DC Metro Area Internship Opportunities

The National Archives Photo Services Office provides a variety of services to the National Archives including photographic coverage of events for use in public relations, internal communications, and historical documentation. Digital asset management and access to digital photographs is also provided by the Photo Services Office. Student interns will assist the Photo Services Office by: organizing, renaming and captioning digital photos; organizing, identifying and captioning film negatives and photo prints; assisting photographers by collecting caption information at photo shoots and other photograph events; and providing general support to the Photo Services Office.
Students interested in an internship with the National Archives Photo Services Office must submit the following:

  • cover letter explaining your interest in the internship
  • résumé
  • one letter of recommendation/college transcript (official or unofficial)
  • short writing sample

Deadlines:

  • Spring: November 1
  • Summer: March 1
  • Fall: July 1

All internship applicants must be U.S. Citizens. Applicants must also be currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited college or university. Preference is given to students currently enrolled in Photography or Information Science programs. 

Internships are unpaid and housing is not provided. All selected candidates must pass a background check.

All applicants must provide the Photo Services Office with all required documentation no later than the posted deadline for each semester period.
