Records Transferred to the Custody of the National Archives at Kansas City
A number of National Archives facilities are transferring custody of records to the National Archives at Kansas City. The affected records have been stored in the Kansas City area for over 15 years and Kansas City staff have been assisting with reference requests on the records for the past 10 years. The change in custody ensures that all necessary records accessioning, processing, description, preservation, and reference services can take place at the location where the records are housed.
All future reference requests will be handled by the staff in Kansas City. Any requests to use the records in person will be conducted in the research room in Kansas City and require two business days advance notice.* Reference requests should be submitted to: kansascity.archives@nara.gov
*In person use of records in the research room is dependent upon the re-opening of the research room which is currently closed due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Completed Relocations
Records Transferred from the National Archives at Chicago
Staff at the National Archives at Chicago moved approximately 10,364 cubic feet of Court of Appeals records (Record Group 276) to the Kansas City area. The records from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit are now completely relocated to the National Archives at Kansas City. The records from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit will remain at the National Archives at Chicago until further notice. Learn more
