Extension Requests

When grantees cannot complete the work on their project in the agreed-upon timeframe, they can apply for a no-cost extension. If approved, the Period of Performance will be extended but the award amount will stay the same.

Requests for no-cost extensions are subject to the following requirements:

  • The Grant Administrator (listed on your award’s Notice of Action) must formally request the extension in writing via eGMS Reach message.
  • This message must be submitted before the grant period ends, but not more than 3 months before that scheduled end date.
  • All financial and narrative reports must be up to date before an extension will be considered.
  • No more than two extensions will normally be granted.

The eGMS Reach message should briefly state the following:

  • The reason(s) for the no-cost extension,
  • The Performance Objectives you will be unable to complete without a no-cost extension,
  • The newly proposed end date for the award period.

Your program officer will review and respond to the request. Each request is subject to review by NHPRC leadership. Extensions are final when a new Notice of Action is issued.
