National Archives Web Site Launches Spanish Portal

Washington, DC…For the first time, the National Archives web site now includes a Spanish portal, viewable online at www.archives.gov. The new "Espanol" portal, which is linked from the top of every page on the web site, provides basic information to Spanish-speaking customers about records, services and exhibits at National Archives facilities nationwide.

Highlights of the National Archives new "Espanol" portal include:

• An introductory page explaining the purpose of the portal, the services that the National Archives provides, and a table of contents of Spanish language pages within the portal;
• Instructions and advice for Spanish-speaking veterans and their families regarding how veterans and next-of-kin can request copies of military service records;
• Spanish translations of the Charters of Freedom: Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights;
• Links to records related to Hispanic heritage;
• Hours and Visitor Information: exhibit and research hours for the National Archives and for Archives II in College Park; links to the Federal Register, to each Region and Presidential Library including Spanish-language pages on the Kennedy, Johnson, and Eisenhower Presidential Library web sites; and links to information about affiliated archives; and,
• The National Archives Primer on Disaster Preparedness, Management and Response.

Archives.gov (http://www.archives.gov) is the main public web site for the National Archives and Records Administration. The National Archives user-friendly public web site grants visitors immediate access to the nation’s treasures and the National Archives most-requested information. The web site features information for the general public, genealogists, veterans and their families, educators and students, researchers, records managers, preservation and archives professionals, information security specialists, federal employees, Members of Congress, and the media. Visitors can easily access National Archives news and locations, the calendar of events, information on public programs, and much more.
