A Matter of Simple Justice…The Untold Story of Barbara Hackman Franklin and A Few Good Women

Washington, DC…On Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 PM, the National Archives will host a panel discussion about women in the Nixon Administration:   A Matter of Simple Justice: The Untold Story of Barbara Hackman Franklin and A Few Good Women. This event is free and open to the public and will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC. Attendees should use the Special Events Entrance, located on the National Mall at Constitution Ave. and 7th Street, NW. This program is presented in partnership with the Richard Nixon Foundation.

Although largely unknown today, the Nixon administration, more than any previous Presidency, shaped the opportunities available to women. A panel moderated by Judy Woodruff of PBS NewsHour explores the challenges women faced then and how their advances shaped opportunities for later generations. Panelists include Barbara Hackman Franklin, hired by Nixon to recruit women and later U.S. Secretary of Commerce; Lee Stout, author of A Matter of Simple Justice: The Untold Story of Barbara Hackman Franklin and A Few Good Women, Librarian Emeritus at the Penn State University Libraries; and Helen Delich Bentley, former Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission under President Nixon and U.S. Congresswoman (R-MD). A book signing will follow the program; the book is available at a discount from the Archives Shop (202-357-5271) before and during the event.
