Memorandum to Federal Records Management Contacts: Notification of ERA Shutdown and the ERA 2.0 Launch

NARA’s Electronic Records Archives (ERA) 2.0 will soon replace the current ERA as the system federal agencies must use for records scheduling and the records transfer process.

At this time, we are currently projecting ERA will be shut down in the middle of February 2023 and ERA 2.0 will launch in early-to-middle March 2023. If these dates change, we will let you know.

NARA will create new ERA 2.0 user accounts for all current ERA users. The new accounts will be based on current profiles and the user roles will remain the same, including Records Scheduler, Certifying Official, Transferring Official, and Agency Approving Official.

Please note that ERA 2.0 will require authentication with your agency’s PIV/CAC. For users who do not have PIV/CAC, NARA can support alternate authentication means and we will provide more information about this closer to the launch date.

Users will also need an active OMB MAX account. If you do not already have an OMB MAX account, we advise you to set yours up now by using the MAX Registration page: https://portal.max.gov/portal/main/displayRegistrationForm

Training resources for ERA 2.0 will be made available to agencies a few weeks prior to the launch of ERA 2.0. General information about ERA 2.0 can be found here: https://www.archives.gov/era/records-mgmt
