Memorandum to Federal Records Management Contacts: Request for Comments on Draft NARA Bulletin on Storing Radiographic Film Records

We are requesting comments on a draft NARA Bulletin, “Guidance on Storing Radiographic Film Records”.

This draft Bulletin provides agencies with general storage guidance for managing radiographic film as federal records, in accordance with 36 CFR Chapter XII Subchapter B, Parts 1234 and 1237.  

We developed this bulletin to fill a gap in our guidance to agencies. In the past, NARA provided a publication on our website about creating and managing X-ray film records. However, the specifications in the publication were not current and did not address all types of radiographic records. While NARA is no longer providing guidance on creating analog radiographic records, we recognize some agencies are still storing and managing these types of records. Therefore, this bulletin updates the descriptions of the major types of radiographic records and contains updated storage and handling specifications.
