MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY CONTACTS: NARA will host a one-day training class, “Managing the Lifecycle of National Security Information” on Wednesday, February 18 at Archives I in Washington, DC.
The National Archives and Records Administration will host a one-day training class, “Managing the Lifecycle of National Security Information” on Wednesday, February 18 at Archives I in Washington, DC. The class will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
"Managing the Lifecycle of National Security Information" is a one-day class designed to improve the management of classified records in the intelligence, law enforcement and defense communities by integrating records management, information security and declassification concepts.
Who may attend: Anyone who handles classified records in agencies within the civilian Executive Branch, the Intelligence Community, and the Department of Defense. Participants do not need a security clearance to attend.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the role of NARA in managing records and safeguarding National Security Information
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of Records Management and Classification Management personnel at every point throughout the record lifecycle
- Apply the rules and mandates that govern the management and safeguarding of National Security Information and records
- Define the additional requirements that pertain to National Security Information for each stage of the record lifecycle

Location: National Archives, Washington Conference Room, Washington, DC
The training will be held at the National Archives and Records Administration downtown building, 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW (Metrorail's Yellow or Green lines to the Archives/Navy Memorial station) in the McGowan Theater. Please enter on the Constitution Avenue side of the building, the "Special Events" entrance (which is the exit for the general public).
